Viewing safely

Except during the brief total phase of a total solar eclipse, never look directly at the Sun without suitable solar viewing protection. Eclipse glasses should comply with ISO 12312-2. Cameras, binoculars and telescopes need purpose-made filters fitted over the front of the optics.

What is the difference between total and partial visibility?

The global eclipse type describes the event at its strongest point. A globally total eclipse is seen as total only inside its narrow central path; surrounding regions may see a partial eclipse.

How accurate are the eclipse times?

The catalogue and paths use NASA GSFC predictions. Local circumstances are calculated for the selected coordinates and should be checked against an official local source before travel or observation.
