## Why the same home feels different in winter and summer

The sun’s path changes because Earth is tilted as it orbits the sun. NASA explains that a hemisphere tilted toward the sun has summer and one tilted away has winter; that changes both daylight length and the angle at which sunlight reaches a home. In the Southern Hemisphere, the broad north/south relationship reverses: north-facing windows receive the more direct winter sun, while south-facing windows tend toward more indirect daylight. East still means morning light and west still means afternoon light.

This is why “south-facing is best” is incomplete advice. It assumes a Northern Hemisphere location and a particular goal: capturing winter sun. Start with your hemisphere, then move on to the actual address, dates, rooms, and surroundings.
